Launch Broken…But Not Too Broken

Posted on: August 17th, 2011 by wmapother 2 Comments

I love that advice.  In other words, just get the darn thing out the door.  And this site is just that darn thing.

Welcome to the new WilliamMapother.com.

It isn’t perfect or complete, and some may call it barely serviceable, but at least it’s out the door.  I intend to take a page from the playbooks of the best tech companies and iterate frequently, instead of tweaking endlessly toward some vague notion of perfection.

So — plenty of more content will be uploaded in the coming days, weeks and months, and if there’s anything you’d like to see, please let me know (on the About page).

In the meantime, I’m glad to have you here.

Site Improvements..Finally!

Posted on: July 24th, 2010 by wmapother 7 Comments

I’m happy to report that unless something really, really, really horrific befalls me in the next few weeks (boy, I’m just begging for it with that, aren’t I?), I hope to have a new site up at WilliamMapother.com and this blog will move to become a page of that site.

It should be cleaner, easier, and have information newer than, say, 2002.

Stay tuned.

Customer Service

More often than you might imagine, I receive emails asking about how to stay up with the blog.  At the bottom of the page is a ‘Subscribe’ button.  That should notify you each time the blog is updated, so you can finally get a good night’s rest.

To upset others, you can also use the ‘Share’ button at the top of the screen.

Not to Be Negative, But..

Posted on: May 12th, 2010 by wmapother 11 Comments

A few nights ago Entertainment Weekly threw a party for their Lost-centric issue.  Whilst there I encountered the mild-mannered Damon Lindelof, Lost’s co-creator, enjoying a cocktail, a well-deserved post-series rest and not bothering anyone.   [Just to clarify, this is he --->  ]

Sadly for him, however, he soon found himself Ethanized.  I somehow found an excuse — I swear, it seemed perfectly reasonable at the time (I think) — to inflict upon him an impassioned and (probably) dramatized introduction to John Keats‘ theory of negative capability, of which I have been immoderately fond since I was a wee college lad.

Today I emailed Damon the wikipedia link and he tweeted about it.  As is customary for Damon, he was kind enough to omit all the gesticulation and listen-to-this-ness.   [ And this is Keats --->  ]

By the way, if you find me blogging about tweeting ever again, please Ethanize me, I beg you.
